Fant Councillors Margaret Rose and Paul Harper have been raising the issue of traffic access to Hart Street for the last year.

Bizarrely, since Covid, it has got worse not better. Residents often have to wait 30 minutes to get out of their flats due to congestion. As a result of the pressure by the Fant Labour Councillors KCC is now looking at 2 options to improve the road junction:

1. Rephase the traffic lights, mainly in off peak times
2. Reverse the one way working along Hart Street where it runs between B & Q and Maidstone West Station. It is option 2 that offers the best solution, it would mean that traffic going into McDonalds would be directed along to Lockmeadow, past B&Q and then turn south to McDonalds. This would remove the need for entry traffic to cross the exit traffic and remove the blockage immediately you turn into Barker Street.
